Yarmolenko Reflects on National Team Omission: A Part of Football

14 May 2025

Defender Andriy Yarmolenko from Dynamo Kyiv commented on the decision of Ukraine's head coach Serhiy Rebrov not to call him up for the fall Nations League matches.

Yarmolenko spoke about this in a podcast hosted by Denys Boyko.

"Honestly, it was unpleasant, but these things happen in football. I understood that if I am not called up, it means that there are players who can deliver better results at the moment.

After being called up to the national team for 15 years straight, if you are injury-free and suddenly this happens for the first time, it's natural to feel a bit upset.

But what can you do? It's football and life. I have to work hard, and maybe next time I will be called again," Yarmolenko explained.

In March, Yarmolenko returned to the national team and came on as a substitute in the second Nations League playoff match against Belgium (0:3).

This season, the 35-year-old player scored 10 goals and provided one assist in 30 matches for Dynamo. Recently, he celebrated his 113th goal in the UPL, equaling the record of Serhiy Rebrov.

Before that, the player shared news about extending his contract with the Kyiv club.
