Seaside Marathon Odesa: A Celebration of Resilience and Achievement

06 April 2025

The Seaside Marathon Odesa took place, attracting approximately 600 participants, including veterans of the conflict. Here's how it unfolded, as reported by Suspilne Odesa.

In the morning, participants gathered at the Sports Palace for the marathon. The event kicked off with a race for individuals in wheelchairs.

One of the participants, Alexander, shared his experience of completing a three-kilometer distance around Victory Park. "Our goal is to show that we are people with disabilities who can achieve success like everyone else," he stated.

Participants had the opportunity to challenge themselves with distances of 5 km, 10 km, 21 km, and 42 km. Veterans also participated in a ceremonial march called "Path of the Veteran" over a distance of 100 meters. Children ran distances of 100 meters, 500 meters, and one kilometer.

Hanna completed the 5 km without prior training, sharing her thoughts: "It was tough, but I managed to reach the finish line despite the weather challenges."

This event is being held in Odesa for the second time, as explained by organizer Olga Volobuyeva. This year, it attracted around 600 participants from Ukraine and abroad, with all proceeds going towards the development of adaptive sports in the region.

The marathon route passed through Shevchenko Avenue, Academic Street, Volunteer Street, Champagne Lane, and back to Shevchenko Avenue. Traffic was restricted along these streets during the event.
