Young Swimmer from Ukraine Wins Medal at European Championship
On the final competitive day of the 2025 European Championship, Ukraine was represented in the sole final event - the 50-meter freestyle.
18-year-old swimmer Nikita Sheremet from the Odesa Sports School «Dynamo» made his debut at international competitions among adults.
In the final, Sheremet finished with a time of 20.81 seconds, breaking the Ukrainian record as well as the world junior record. With this result, he secured a silver medal at Euro-2025 in short-course swimming, sharing second place with Olympic medalist Maxime Grosse (France).
During the European Short Course Swimming Championships, Nikita also set two more junior records for Ukraine: in the 4x50m relay and in the 100m freestyle. Nikita Sheremet brought Ukraine its first medal in the 50-meter freestyle in 12 years at the Euro for short-course swimming.
The athlete is coached by trainers Alla Timofeeva and Alexandra Kurbanova.
