Trump's Plan: Russian Control Over Ukraine
President Donald Trump is presenting new demands regarding Russia's control over Ukrainian lands, asserting that this is the "final condition." According to The Times, Kyiv faces an ultimatum: accept the new terms or lose US support.
Sources indicate that Trump believes the Ukrainian president "has no other choice" but to agree with the proposed plan. He warns that he may withdraw from peace talks if an agreement is not reached soon.
The proposal put forward by Witkoff to Moscow and Kyiv includes recognition of Russia's control over Crimea and parts of southern and eastern Ukraine seized after 2022.
In contrast, the European-Ukrainian plan stipulates that territorial control issues will only be discussed after a ceasefire is established.
"Trump's view is that this land is lost. The deal currently on the table maintains Russian control over the occupied territories. There will be no retreat," the source stated.
The US believes that if Ukraine rejects the agreement, the war could drag on for an indefinite period, leaving Kyiv reliant on European funding.
"Reduced funding from the US will impact Ukraine's capabilities just as much as a decrease in arms supplies," the source added.
When asked about the "take it or leave it" option, the source replied that the situation appears to be "take it or take it."
American officials also believe that public opinion in Europe might shift against extensive spending to support Ukraine, especially amid economic challenges caused by Trump's tariffs.
After three hours of negotiations between Witkoff and Putin, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov described the talks as constructive.
Trump reaffirmed his stance on occupied territories, stating that "Crimea will remain with Russia" and again blamed Kyiv for provoking the invasion.
