The Life of Meadow Birds in Ukraine

14 May 2025

This was shared by a representative of the National Park, ecologist Ivan Rusev.

According to him, meadow birds typically settle on broad, muddy shores of lagoons and salt marshes, seeking cozy spots for nesting.

Their flight is characterized by smoothness and grace, combined with high speed and a variety of movements. They primarily forage for food while soaring high in the sky.

In much of their European range, the population of meadow birds is significantly declining due to environmental changes, the biologist noted.

He also mentioned that the meadow bird, as a rare species, is protected under the Red Book of Ukraine, the Bonn and Bern Conventions, the AEWA Agreement, and the EU Directive on the conservation of wild birds.
