Illegal Tobacco Cultivation Discovered in Odesa Region
This information was shared by the head of BEB detectives, Oleksandr Tkachuk, during a roundtable with the «Ukrtyun» Association.
According to BEB, 16 greenhouses were set up in the Ovidiopol community for tobacco cultivation using a drip irrigation system. These greenhouses provided optimal conditions for plant growth.
After harvesting, the tobacco leaves were dried for several months in specially equipped facilities. Subsequently, the dried raw material was crushed using an industrial line and packaged into boxes. Investigators revealed that the finished tobacco product was intended for illegal sale across Ukraine, branded as products from well-known trademarks.
BEB detectives seized nearly 56 tons of cultivated and processed tobacco products, as well as seeding equipment, irrigation hoses, and an industrial line for drying and crushing tobacco. The seized materials have been sent for necessary forensic examinations as part of the investigation.
