Collaboration Between Odessa and Bristol: New Opportunities
Odessa's Mayor Gennady Trukhanov held an online meeting with Tony Dyer, the leader of Bristol City Council.
During their dialogue, they explored opportunities for collaboration, particularly in film and under the auspices of UNESCO.
Bristol boasts a thriving cultural scene, especially in the arts and cinema. Since 2017, it has been a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities network after being designated a «City of Film».
«International relations between countries are sustained by horizontal connections between municipalities, which are more practical and effective. Your experience in addressing community issues, managing UNESCO sites, and preserving architectural heritage is vital for us. Our team seeks to learn from European cities and the UK, known for its traditions and historical preservation. Your rich cultural heritage, attention to architecture, museums, and archives exemplifies how modernity and respect for the past can coexist harmoniously. We aim to adopt such approaches to maintain our identity while moving forward,» remarked the Mayor of Odessa.
Representatives from Bristol plan to visit Odessa soon to strengthen their partnership and gain a deeper understanding of the city, its culture, history, infrastructure, and business.
Bristol was named the best city to live in Britain in 2014 and 2017 and received the «European Green Capital» award in 2015.
