Revamping "Ukrposhta": New App with Enhanced Features

18 April 2025

The state postal operator "Ukrposhta" intends to launch a revamped mobile application with new features by June this year.

In an interview with Forbes Ukraine, CEO Ihor Smiliansky stated that the new app is one of the company's key priorities for 2025.

"We aim to launch it by the end of the first half of the year. The app will not just track parcels; it will also include features for interacting with customs, displaying estimated delivery dates, confirming documents, and providing a history of shipments and payments," said Smiliansky.

The launch of the new "Ukrposhta" app was initially scheduled for 2024 but was postponed for various reasons. The old app has low ratings in both the App Store and Google Play Market, with its main issue being the absence of notifications regarding parcel status. The new application is expected to allow for parcel rerouting to different branches, which currently can only be done by phone or at postal offices.

Additionally, Ihor Smiliansky mentioned that around 1 billion UAH was invested in automation in 2024. "This amount includes warranties for five years, and all financing comes from our own resources," the CEO of the postal operator stated.

According to him, over 90% of parcels now arrive on time. "I measure the effect of automation through Facebook and TikTok. Previously, there were dozens, if not hundreds, of comments under my posts about how poorly "Ukrposhta" delivered. In the last two months, there have been almost none. This is the most honest indicator for me, as it cannot be faked. We launched full automation and are currently refining the IT system so that clients can see the estimated delivery date at the time of sending," concluded Ihor Smiliansky.

Remember, in February 2025, "Ukrposhta" fully automated parcel sorting. In January 2025, the government transferred shares of the First Investment Bank, previously owned by Russian oligarchs, to the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development, with subsequent transfer to "Ukrposhta". This will enable the postal operator to establish its own banking institution. Ihor Smiliansky had previously stated that after creating its own bank, the capitalization of "Ukrposhta" would increase, allowing it to build an Amazon-like model in the Ukrainian format. It is also worth mentioning that last year, "Ukrposhta" reported a revenue of 12.98 billion UAH, which is 8% more than nearly 12 billion in 2023. However, considering the annual inflation rate of 14.6%, the real growth turned into a decline — resulting in a loss of 387 million UAH by the end of 2024.
