Decline in Cargo Handling at Ukrainian Ports
In the first quarter of 2025, Ukrainian ports processed 23 million tons of cargo, which is 4.8 million tons less compared to the same period last year.
This information comes from the Administration of Sea Ports of Ukraine.
According to AMPU, the largest volumes of cargo handling took place in the ports of Greater Odesa, which processed 20.7 million tons since the beginning of the year. Specifically, Pivdennyi Port handled 10.6 million tons, Chornomorsk Port — 6.6 million tons, and Odesa Port — 3.5 million tons.
The Danube region ports including Izmail, Reni, and Ust-Dunaisk collectively handled over 2.3 million tons of cargo.
“The decline in cargo turnover is linked to a reduction in agricultural land and a downturn in production in export-oriented sectors, particularly metallurgy, which exported up to 80% of its products before the war,” AMPU explained.
It is also noted that globally, cargo handling is decreasing due to market instability and disruptions in logistics.
