A shocking incident occurred in the Bereziv community when a man shot a neighbor's dog with an air rifle. The offender now faces criminal charges.

This incident took place in February when a local resident heard whining from a neighbor's yard and discovered the dog's body. She immediately reported it to the police.

Upon arrival, law enforcement learned that a 25-year-old man from a nearby village was visiting friends and consuming alcohol. During their conversation, he learned that their mixed-breed dog was allegedly eating chickens. To punish the animal, he decided to use an air rifle he had brought with him and shot the dog in the eye.

According to the veterinary forensic examination, the dog died from brain swelling caused by the gunshot wound.

Police quickly identified the offender and seized the weapon used. Experts confirmed that it was a 4.5 mm air rifle.

After gathering sufficient evidence, the police charged the man with animal cruelty leading to the animal's death. Under the Criminal Code of Ukraine, he faces up to three years in prison.

The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the Bereziv District Prosecutor's Office.
