Protest Action at Pushkin Monument in Odesa

13 April 2025

Today, April 13, activists in Odesa staged a protest at the monument of Russian poet Alexander Pushkin, placing a sign reading «Looking for a bulldozer» on it.

According to videos shared online, some locals expressed outrage over this action.

«Is there really nothing more to address?» – asked a man off-camera.

The outcome of the confrontation remains unknown.

Kateryna Musienko, head of the youth organization «We Make You Nervous», stated that they aimed to «prepare the Pushkin monument for Easter».

«Today, we prepared the Pushkin monument for the holiday, clearly indicating that this figure should be in a museum. We adhere to Ukrainian Easter traditions – we clear out all the unnecessary items from our homes!», – she wrote on Facebook.

She also asserted that «the history of occupation should be studied through textbooks and museum exhibits».

«Colonial monuments have no place in the streets of Ukrainian cities», – she is convinced.

According to her, the city council, having the authority to dismantle the monument, not only neglects its duties but also dares to renovate the monument's facade and plant flower beds around it.

«Let’s help Trukhanov find equipment to remove this marker of the «Russian world» in downtown Odesa! Tear off the number from the «Looking for a bulldozer» sign and call the mayor to speed up the process!», – Musienko urged.
