New Accessible Toilets in Odesa

08 April 2025

New automated toilet modules designed for individuals with disabilities are set to be introduced in Odesa. This initiative was discussed during the Barrier-Free Council meeting chaired by the Mayor of Odesa, Hennadiy Trukhanov.

In response to the request from the Barrier-Free Council's expert group, the Department of Municipal Economy has studied the implementation of similar facilities in Ukraine, particularly in Kyiv.

During the meeting, a module with two stalls was presented: one of which is spacious enough to accommodate a person in a wheelchair or a mother with a stroller. The metal, corrosion-resistant stall is equipped with an automatic cleaning function, motion sensors for each feature, and an automatic unlock system after 15 minutes. It also includes a call button for an operator and a module for cashless payments.

The proposal to install these automatic toilets at Soborna Square, in the City Garden, on Prymorsky Boulevard, and on the Avenue of Ukrainian Heroes will be put forward to the Odesa City Council session.
