Getting a Driver's License in Ukraine: Essential Information
Driving is often associated with freedom, independence, and new opportunities. Many Ukrainians are eager to master this skill today. However, achieving this goal involves learning and reaching a certain age.
In Ukraine, there is no maximum age limit for obtaining a driver's license, meaning that even older individuals can become drivers if they have no medical contraindications. However, there are clear rules regarding the minimum age for obtaining a driver's license.
You can start training and obtain a driver's license for mopeds and motorcycles (categories A and A1) starting at the age of 16. For trucks and trailers, the minimum age is 19, while for trolleybuses and trams, it is 21.
According to Ukrainian law, the right to drive is granted to individuals who have reached:
16 years — category A1, A;
18 years — categories B1, B, C1, C;
19 years — categories BE, C1E, CE;
21 years — categories D1, D, D1E, DE, T.
Step-by-step guide:
To obtain a driver's license, you must learn traffic rules according to the Standard Training Program. This can be done independently or in an accredited driving school. Then you need to pass a theoretical exam at the MVS service center. After successfully passing the test, the candidate undergoes practical training at the driving school and takes the internal practical exam, followed by the exam at the MVS service center.
To take the exams at the MVS service center, you need to prepare the following documents:
Ukrainian passport with a registration mark or ID card;
medical certificate of fitness to drive the chosen category;
registration number of the taxpayer card;
existing driver's license (if obtaining rights for other categories).
Please note that the fee for the theoretical exam is 250 UAH, and for the practical exam — 420 UAH.
Services are provided by prior registration through the E-Record system or at self-service terminals located in the MVS service center. Consultations can be obtained by calling (044) 290-19-88 or visiting the pages of the Main Service Center of the MVS on social media. More information can be found on the official website.
