World Autism Awareness Day: Essential Steps Toward Change
Every year on April 2, the world observes a significant occasion – World Autism Awareness Day, established by the UN in 2007.
This day aims to enhance awareness and understanding of autism and to draw attention to individuals living with autism spectrum disorders. As part of the event, a round table was held at the Community Rehabilitation Center on the topic «Children with Special Needs (Autism) in Society».
Participants included: the Director of the Department of Labor and Social Policy of the Odesa City Council, Olena Kytainska, heads of district social protection departments, and employees of municipal institutions and social services in the city.
Experts from the center shared their experiences working with children with autism spectrum disorders, emphasizing the importance of establishing contact and interaction with children and their parents. They also discussed challenges related to motor control, hydrotherapy, and the development of cognitive functions in preschool children.
Attendees were able to observe an open music class titled «Development of Musical Concepts in Children with Autism of Various Ages».
At the conclusion of the round table, participants expressed gratitude to the organizers for the informative presentations and suggested hosting an international conference in Odesa, inviting specialists from educational, scientific, and medical fields.
