Arrest Made in Illegal Border Crossing Scheme

02 April 2025

A 22-year-old perpetrator was arrested for facilitating illegal border crossings. He has been charged and is facing potential imprisonment along with asset confiscation.

Authorities discovered that a resident of the Velykomykhailivska community was using social media to find men seeking to leave the country illegally. After locating two 'clients', the suspect offered them transportation to the Moldova border for $5,000 each. The service included guidance on how to cross the border safely at night. Meeting with the clients, the suspect drove them to a border area in the Rozdilna district.

The individual was apprehended by police near the state border after delivering the men to their destination and receiving $10,000. As evidence, investigators seized the cash and the vehicle, which has been placed under arrest. Since the charge includes asset confiscation, the court may order the vehicle to be seized.

The suspect is currently facing charges under part 3 of article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for organizing the illegal transportation of individuals across the state border for personal gain. This crime is punishable by up to nine years in prison and asset confiscation. The court has placed the suspect in custody with the option of bail, stated investigator Victoria Bondarenko.
