Arrest of a Man for Drug Trafficking and Possession of Ammunition
A 37-year-old man has been charged under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and taken into custody. He faces up to eight years in prison.
Officers from the Odesa District Police No. 2 discovered that a resident of the Vygodyanska community was in possession of ammunition and narcotic substances, seeking buyers for them.
During investigative operations, law enforcement documented the suspect selling two grenades and a package of a narcotic substance, receiving 5500 hryvnias in return.
Involving specialists from the regional police's explosive device service, investigators seized grenade bodies with fuses, which preliminary checks revealed to be operational military munitions. They also confiscated a substance suspected to be a narcotic and the cash.
Additionally, during a sanctioned search at the suspect's residence, several zip bags containing similar plant material, packaging equipment, and over a hundred rounds of ammunition were seized. Some of the confiscated items were sent for expert examination.
According to Andriy Donets, the head of the Odesa District Police No. 2, the offender was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and was currently charged with illegal acquisition, possession for sale, and illegal sale of narcotic substances (Part 1 of Article 307 of the CCU), as well as illegal possession, acquisition, and sale of ammunition without legal permission (Part 1 of Article 263 of the CCU).
Upon request from investigators, the court chose detention as a preventive measure for the suspect. He faces up to eight years of imprisonment for the offense.
All circumstances of the crime, including the channel through which the “goods” reached the suspect, will be established during the investigation. The procedural supervision in the case is conducted by the Bilyaivka District Prosecutor's Office.
