Women's Movement in Ukraine: New Horizons
The conference titled "Women's Movement: New Horizons" is taking place in Odesa, celebrating the 140th anniversary of the women's movement in Ukraine, alongside the Ukrainian Women's Congress in Kyiv.
The Mayor of Odesa, Gennady Trukhanov, welcomed the participants, highlighting the importance of women in contemporary military, political, and social life. He also emphasized their role in preserving the cultural traditions of the city and expressed gratitude for their active involvement.
Sabine Fraizer Gunes, representative of UN Women Ukraine, spoke about the support of the United Nations in promoting the women's movement:
“We know that women in Ukraine are free in their choices. For instance, last year women accounted for 50% of new entrepreneurs in Ukraine. They take on incredible responsibilities, replacing men who are at the front. Currently, about 60,000 women serve in security forces.”
The conference brought together historians, activists, servicewomen, representatives of international organizations, economists, and gender specialists.
Key topics of the conference included the historical context of the women's movement in Ukraine and Odesa, the challenges and achievements of women in modern society, as well as leadership and the rebuilding of the country after the war.
