Collaboration between Odesa City Council and UN on Humanitarian Aid

On October 15, 2024, a significant meeting took place at the Odesa City Council between acting Mayor Oleksandr Filatov and the Mayor's advisor on social issues Veronika Etnarovych, along with the UN humanitarian coordinator in Ukraine, Mr. Matthias Schmale.

In attendance were: the head of the Office for Europe, Central Asia, and the Caucasus at UN OCHA Mr. Abdul Hak Amiri, acting head of UN OCHA in Ukraine Ms. Anne-Sophie Le Beaux, head of the Southern Hub of UN OCHA in Ukraine Teikshur Mugari, advisor on humanitarian issues Alina Basiuk, and the director of the Department of Labor and Social Policy of the Odesa City Council Olena Kytainska.

During the meeting, crucial issues related to the city's security and humanitarian needs amidst military aggression were discussed, including support for internally displaced persons and preparation for the winter season.

UN representatives emphasized the importance of including the needs of internally displaced persons in the Humanitarian Needs Plan and the necessity of providing Odesa with additional modular-type protective shelters.

Additionally, they explored the possibility of ensuring the stable operation of heating and water supply systems for the city's social institutions during the autumn-winter period.

Oleksandr Filatov expressed gratitude on behalf of Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov to international partners for their cooperation and comprehensive support, particularly in the restoration of buildings damaged by enemy attacks.
