Meeting with Greek Delegation in Odesa

21 October 2024

On October 21, 2024, the acting mayor of Odesa, Alexander Filatov, held a significant meeting with a delegation from the Hellenic Republic, led by Dimitrios Skalkos, Secretary General of International Economic Relations at the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During this meeting, the current situation in the city, bilateral cooperation, and recovery plans for Odesa amidst the war were discussed.

«We are truly grateful for your visit. It takes great courage to come to a country that is at war. We appreciate the support Greece provides to Ukraine, especially to Odesa», emphasized Alexander Filatov.

«Our visit is not an act of bravery, as the real courage is to live, as you do, while continuing to develop the city during wartime. We feel a moral obligation to support you», stated Mr. Skalkos.

The Greek delegation confirmed its readiness to support restoration projects and assist in Ukraine's recovery. The work of the Greece-Ukraine Friendship Parliamentary Group, which actively enhances cooperation between the two countries, was also highlighted.

In August 2023, the city of Corfu (Greece) hosted a group of children from Odesa for recreation. From August 28 to September 11, 2024, a group of 44 children from Odesa, along with 5 supervisors, vacationed at a children's camp run by the Holy Archdiocese of Athens and all of Greece. Currently, the receipt of humanitarian aid from Greece in the form of work clothes for the city's utility services is being processed.
