Celebrating the Land Forces of Ukraine: Defenders of Our Homeland

12 December 2025

In Ukraine, December 12 is celebrated as Land Forces Day, a holiday symbolizing the bravery and determination of our soldiers.

This day was established by the decree of the President of Ukraine on October 18, 1997, to honor the contributions of the Land Forces in ensuring national defense.

Today, we pay tribute to the mechanized, tank, and missile troops, as well as artillery and special forces.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, emphasized that these forces are the backbone of Ukraine's defense.

“The Land Forces are a powerful force that unites all components of the army, allowing Ukraine to endure and continue fighting,” Syrskyi stated in his social media post.

According to him, at the onset of the full-scale Russian invasion, it was the ground troops that became the first barrier to halt the enemy.

“Our infantry defended Kyiv, liberated areas of Kherson, and defeated the enemy in Bakhmut. The Land Forces are our front line,” Syrskyi concluded.

He also noted that today the Land Forces are undergoing significant transformations right on the battlefield.

“Modern technologies, drones, new combat modules – this is the reality of our forces. I am proud to lead the strongest army in Europe,” Syrskyi emphasized.

On this day, we honor all Land Forces soldiers who gave their lives for Ukraine's freedom. Eternal memory to the Heroes.

“Thank you to every soldier for your bravery and service. You are holding our land,” he added.

“Glory to the Land Forces of Ukraine! Glory to the army!” – the minister emphasized.
