Night Attack: How Lives Were Saved During a Fire

16 October 2025

A few days ago, during an air raid alert, an enemy drone struck a yard, igniting a fire. The flames quickly engulfed a structure adjoining a residential house. At that moment, a sick woman, unable to move on her own, was inside the home. A gas cylinder was also in the vicinity of the blaze, posing an additional explosion threat.

The first responders were from the patrol police department.

“There was no time for doubt – immediate action was necessary. My partner, Oleksandr Slyvynskyi, facilitated the access for rescue and emergency medical teams, while I entered the house through a window to open the doors blocked by the explosion wave for the medics. Together with a neighbor, we moved the gas cylinder away from the flames. Before the ambulance arrived, we kept the hostess warm with blankets to prevent hypothermia,” said police officer Ruslan Bilyi.

The medics transported the woman to the hospital, as it was unsafe for her to remain at home, while firefighters extinguished the blaze.

Thanks to the coordinated and decisive actions of the police officers who arrived first on the scene, a tragedy was averted and a life was saved.
