Support for Patients with Rare Diseases in Odesa

14 October 2025

In Odesa, patients with rare medical conditions receive essential medications and therapeutic nutrition at no cost through the City Health Program.

The 2025 city budget allocates 26.8 million UAH to support patients with orphan diseases, significantly enhancing their quality of life, preventing severe complications, and reducing the financial burden on families.

As part of the "Health" program, 21 patients with phenylketonuria have been provided with therapeutic mixtures – 12 children and 9 adults, ensuring they receive adequate nutrition during critical growth periods.

Patients with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis have also benefited, with 60 children and 50 adults receiving biologic treatments that enhance their well-being and enable them to lead active lifestyles.

During the first nine months of 2025, 175 patients with other rare diseases received medical supplies, including those with ankylosing spondylitis and psoriatic arthropathy.

Children with hemophilia receive necessary treatment medications for free, preventing serious complications. In 2023, 11 children with hemophilia are receiving treatment funded by the state budget.

Timely medical intervention has greatly improved the quality of life for patients with rare diseases, allowing them to live fulfilling lives.
