Minor Earthquake in Vrancea: Impact on Odesa Region
A minor earthquake measuring 3.4 in magnitude was recorded in the Romanian seismic zone of Vrancea at a depth of 125.7 km. Although the epicenter was located in Romania, light tremors were likely felt in the Odesa region.
This morning, October 13, 2025, an earthquake occurred in Romania's Vrancea zone, with its tremors possibly reaching the Odesa area. According to the Romanian National Institute of Earth Physics (INFP), the quake was detected at 08:36:22 local time, which aligns with Kyiv time. Such events can pose risks to southern parts of Ukraine, particularly Odesa, due to its proximity to this active zone.
"The earthquake occurred near cities located 30 km west of Focșani, 68 km north of Buzău, 80 km east of Sfântu Gheorghe, 84 km southwest of Bârlad, 89 km southwest of Bacău, and 94 km east of Brașov," the report stated.
According to INFP data, the earthquake's magnitude was 3.4 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter at a substantial depth of 125.7 kilometers. Although this earthquake is classified as minor and likely caused no damage in Romania, deep quakes in Vrancea are often characterized by a wide radius of seismic wave propagation. This means that residents in northern and central parts of Odesa, especially those living in high-rise buildings, may have experienced slight tremors.
