08 October 2025

On October 7th, an online seminar titled «Building Cultural and Touristic Ties between Bristol (West England) and Odesa (Ukraine)» was held, organized with the support of Odesa's city council advisor, Tatyana Markova. This event marked the first step towards a long-term collaboration between the two UNESCO creative cities.

Odesa's Mayor, Gennady Trukhanov, stated, «The United Kingdom is not just a partner, but a true friend of Ukraine that supports us in our toughest times. Odesa is a city that has always been open to the world, and we are excited to kick off active engagement with the West England region and the city of Bristol. We are united by creativity, cultural depth, and the desire to create the future together.»

Bristol City Council advisor Paul Hoggins shared his impressions of Odesa, calling it «a city with unique architecture, warm-hearted people, and unforgettable flavors.»

Participants of the seminar included representatives from city councils of both countries, cultural institutions, tourist organizations, the film industry, and festivals.

Key priorities include creating joint projects and festivals, involving Odesa artists in Bristol events, exchange programs for students and creative youth, collaboration with the Visit West tourism platform, and restoring historical monuments in Odesa that were damaged during the war.

The British side confirmed its readiness for humanitarian support and economic collaboration.
