Launch of the Contaminated Territories Register in Ukraine

26 August 2025

In December, Ukraine will initiate the Register of Territories Contaminated or Potentially Contaminated by Explosive Objects, as stated by Igor Klymenko in an interview.

The meeting of the Interior Minister with the media took place in Cherkasy during the operations of the State Emergency Service units. Igor Klymenko highlighted that since the beginning of the full-scale war, the emergency service has cleared over 250,000 hectares, removing and destroying 790,000 hazardous objects.

The Minister also noted that specialists are actively working to launch the Register of Contaminated Territories with the aim of providing access for legal entities starting in 2026. After testing is complete, the register will also be available to private individuals who have land ownership rights.

During a visit to the training site for diver-sappers, the Minister announced plans to increase the unit's staff to 500 people. This is part of the demining ecosystem:

“The demining ecosystem can be divided into several levels: the Mine Action Office, Humanitarian Demining Center, and certification of specialists. Such a system is already in place and functioning,” said Igor Klymenko.
