Odessa's Initiatives for Barrier-Free Routes: A Step Towards Accessibility
The city of Odessa is actively developing barrier-free routes as part of a new national initiative. On August 20, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a new resolution outlining the requirements for planning and establishing barrier-free transport and pedestrian pathways.
This document streamlines the organization process and opens up new opportunities for expanding the program across Ukraine. Currently, 15 communities are participating in the pilot initiative of the Ministry of Development called "Movement Without Barriers". The routes are being developed by local authorities in collaboration with architects, facility managers, and public organizations.
The coordination of the entire process is managed by the Ministry of Development of Communities. Odessa remains among the leading cities in implementing this program.
During an online meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Kuleba, the progress of the project's implementation in Odessa was discussed, particularly the updating of the barrier-free route signage and the agreement on project and technical documentation for its first phase.
“In close collaboration with the ministry and relevant experts, the city is implementing modern solutions that make Odessa more accessible for everyone,” emphasized acting Deputy Mayor of Odessa, Serhiy Kotsyuba.
