Odessa Boiler Shutdown: Necessary Maintenance Work

12 November 2024

Today, November 12, one of the boilers in Odessa was forced to halt its operations for six hours due to chimney reconstruction work.

Immediately after the previous heating season ended, the company KP "TMO" ordered a comprehensive inspection of all chimneys. In June, a report was received indicating that one chimney required urgent repair work — at "North-1".

As noted by Odessa's Deputy Mayor Hanna Pozdnyakova, there are no similar works in the country considering the height of the chimney (120 meters). To carry out the work, the company ordered a crane with a lifting capacity of 600 tons, while the crane itself weighs 970 tons.

There are only a few such cranes in Ukraine, and they are all engaged in recovery operations for energy facilities after enemy attacks.

"According to the schedule, the crane was supposed to be at the KP 'TMO' site back in August, but due to circumstances beyond our control, the timelines were significantly pushed back — the equipment was performing other critical tasks. Moreover, such a level and scale of work require highly qualified specialists, and considering our realities, their availability has also been problematic. We are working in accordance with the circumstances that we cannot influence," Hanna Pozdnyakova stated.

KP "TMO" apologizes for the temporary inconveniences and emphasizes that it is doing everything possible to ensure a stable and reliable heating supply to Odessa residents throughout the entire heating season.
