New Life on the Coast: Swallows at Tuzlivski Limany
In the National Nature Park 'Tuzlivski Limany' in Odesa, 11 nests built by swallows were recorded this year. Researchers closely monitored the birds' behavior and counted 35 chicks for the season.
Ivan Rusev, head of the research department at the NPP 'Tuzlivski Limany', reported this.
One pair of swallows decided to raise a second brood and built a new nest on the rib of a dolphin that died due to the war. "This rib and others, along with dolphin skulls found along the Black Sea coast, serve as a reminder of the brutal war of Russia against Ukraine – the battle for the Black Sea, where thousands of dolphins and azovkas perished," noted Ivan Rusev. The chicks are expected to grow for flight by August 15, and in September they will fly south for winter with their parents.
