Enhancing Accessibility in Odesa's Trams
Odesa has launched a new tram modernization initiative featuring an innovative lift designed for passengers with mobility challenges.
The «Odesa City Electric Transport» company has successfully completed the upgrade of another «Tatra» tram, which will soon be operational on city routes.
This unique feature is a result of local engineers’ work, who developed a modern lift for less mobile passengers. The initial models of the lifts were showcased to the Odesa delegation during the international transport exhibition InnoTrans - 2024 in Berlin. The mayor of Odesa highlighted this as an example of successful international cooperation.
The design has undergone technical testing and received positive feedback from the ambassadors of the «Barrier-Free Movement» initiative. Currently, the company has submitted documents for patenting this development.
«We are not just upgrading transport; we are creating comfort and accessibility for every resident. Such projects have become a norm for Odesa, but I am well aware of the immense work behind each achievement,» the mayor emphasized.
The modernized tram is ready to hit the routes, and specialists are already working on further improvements.
