Police Dog Elsa Saves Elderly Man's Life in Odesa Region

17 July 2025

In the Odesa region, a service dog named Elsa performed a heroic act by saving the life of an elderly man. Along with her handler, Marina Novitska, she successfully located a 74-year-old man who had gone missing the day before.

After a prolonged and fruitless search, the family reached out to the authorities for assistance.

“The grandfather disappeared suddenly, and the family was unable to find him. It was only when they contacted the police that the service dog was able to pick up his scent and led us to him. In the pouring rain and during the night, Elsa worked tirelessly and found the man unconscious but, fortunately, alive, in a field near the village of Delzhyler,” said Andriy Nebytov, Deputy Head of the National Police and Head of the Criminal Police.

The police called for medical assistance, which was provided to the victim.

Andriy Nebytov added that service dogs are invaluable assistants in the daily operations of the police.
