Fires in Odesa Region: Four Incidents in One Day
In the Odesa region, four fires broke out within a single day, leading to significant land loss and the tragic death of one individual, with three others suffering burns. These incidents took place in the Rozdilna, Odesa, Izmail, and Berezivka districts, as reported by the State Emergency Service.
On July 7, during the day, outside the village of Novopetrivka in the Rozdilna district, stubble, shrubs, and a forest strip caught fire over an area of 23 hectares. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze. The cause of the fire and damages are currently being assessed. Fortunately, there were no fatalities or injuries. Five units of equipment and 15 firefighters were involved.
Also, on July 7, outside the village of Velyki Lonzaky in the Odesa district, stubble burned over an area of 2.5 hectares along with four abandoned outbuildings. The firefighters managed to put out the fire effectively.
"As a result of attempting to extinguish the fire independently, a woman born in 1955 was hospitalized with first and second-degree burns on both lower limbs. Four units of equipment and 17 firefighters were involved," the agency reported.
In the village of Broska in the Izmail district, on July 7, dry grass ignited over an area of 2.5 hectares, as well as two abandoned buildings in a dacha cooperative. The firefighters successfully extinguished this fire.
"Sadly, the body of a woman born in 1947 was found at the scene, who likely attempted to extinguish the fire on her own. Two units of equipment and 7 firefighters from the State Emergency Service were involved, along with 1 unit and 2 personnel from the local fire team "Ozerne" and 1 unit and 2 personnel from the local fire team "Katlabug"," the agency stated.
In the evening of July 7, in the village of Novosvitivka in the Berezivka district, stubble caught fire over an area of 2.5 hectares. During an independent fire extinguishing attempt, two minor girls, aged 17 and 15, suffered from smoke inhalation and were hospitalized. Three units of equipment and 10 firefighters were involved in the firefighting efforts.
