Summer Greening in Odessa: New Floral Arrangements
Greeners from the Odessa Municipal Enterprise «Municipal Green Trust» have begun their work on summer flower planting. The floral arrangements will traditionally include salvias, geraniums, begonias, petunias, ageratum, tagetes, and chlorophytum.
The first summer flowers have already decorated part of the Stock Exchange Square and the flowerbeds near the Primorsky District Administration, replacing the spring blooms. This year, it is planned to plant 350 thousand summer flowers.
According to the Municipal Enterprise «Municipal Green Trust», summer flowers will be planted in all city districts where spring flowers have already faded.
Today, the greeners also planted 72 bushes.
Perennial plants, including junipers, hibiscus, and broom, are planted with a closed root system (clod of earth) for better adaptation to the urban environment.
The young plants have beautified the median strip on Nebesna Sotnia Avenue and Prince Yaroslav the Wise Avenue.

All flower seedlings (summer and spring flowers), as well as flowers for vertical greening (100-150 hanging pots), are grown in their greenhouses at the «Rose» section. Here, approximately 1 million plants are grown each year, including 200-250 thousand spring flowers, 250 thousand flowering potted plants, and about 500 thousand other seedlings, along with around 11 thousand decorative leafy trees.
Each year, greeners plant around 40 thousand perennials (chrysanthemums, miscanthus, yucca, hydrangeas, irises, burning bush, and others) that have been prepared in the enterprise's greenhouses.
Starting in September, the preparation of greenhouses for the next year begins. On 5 hectares of land at the «Rose» section, there are: 4 thousand sq. m of greenhouse complex, 2 thousand sq. m of hotbeds, and a utility yard. All of this is managed by 29 greeners and 3 engineering and technical staff.
Traditionally, the first spring flowers (daisies, violas, forget-me-nots) adorn Odessa at the beginning of April. Later, they are replaced by summer flowers: salvias, petunias, primroses, tagetes, and ageratum.
The Municipal Green Trust manages over 547.71 hectares of land, including 16 parks, 79 squares, 7 boulevards, and 122 other green areas.
