Diabetes Conference in Odessa: New Initiatives and Support
The Mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, participated in a conference dedicated to World Diabetes Day.
According to the World Health Organization, diabetes is one of the leading causes of disability and death globally. Early detection significantly reduces the risks of complications.
The event was attended by specialists, as well as parents and children living with diabetes, who receive comprehensive support. Developments in modern diabetology were also discussed.
“Despite the war, Odessa continues to work on improving the quality of life for people with diabetes and raising awareness about this condition. We are ready to implement other modern solutions and technologies to enhance the lives of our children, as well as promote preventive measures that encourage healthy lifestyles among the youth,” said the Mayor of Odessa.
In Odessa, more than 30,000 adults and children live with diabetes. Among them, nearly 5,000 patients have insulin-dependent diabetes and receive insulin therapy, including over 400 children.
- All diabetes patients have access to necessary medications through the state program “Affordable Medicines.”
- The “Diabetes School” operates at the Reznik Children’s Center.
- Within the City Health Program, insulin pumps and supplies for children with type 1 diabetes have been purchased.
- Children receive free continuous glucose monitoring systems.
- Free events are held to raise awareness about diabetes prevention and early detection.
- A project to increase teachers' awareness of diabetes has been launched.
