New Health Initiatives in Odesa
To enhance the effectiveness of prevention efforts, early detection, and timely treatment of diseases, the Department of Health of the Odesa City Council has launched free preventive campaigns in medical institutions of Odesa as part of the City Target Program «Health» for 2024-2026.
In 2024, at the initiative of the Department of Health, the Odesa City Health Center organized 29 preventive events – Health Days for the adult and child population of Odesa.
The goal of these activities is to increase the awareness of Odesa residents regarding risk factors and prevention of the most common diseases, as well as their early detection for timely treatment and to motivate the population towards a healthy lifestyle.
During the events, doctors from Odesa's city medical facilities conducted free preventive examinations: ophthalmological, dental, dermatological with dermatoscopy, otolaryngological, gynecological with cytological analysis, urological examinations and PSA tests, mammological and mammographic examinations, ECG, ultrasound, and fluorographic examinations; they measured blood pressure, determined blood glucose levels and body mass index, assessed visual and auditory acuity; performed laboratory tests and provided consultations.
Throughout the current year, a total of 40,911 individuals underwent preventive examinations in Odesa's medical facilities, including 37,384 adults and 3,527 children. Specifically, cancer screenings were conducted for 13,378 individuals, of which 3,903 were men and 9,475 were women.
All patients with identified health issues were referred to specialized professionals. Timely disease diagnostics are a crucial factor for successful treatment.
This year, Odesa's medical institutions also actively participated in initiatives aimed at raising awareness about mental health, prevention, and treatment of its disorders. Within the framework of the nationwide mental health program «How are you?», initiated by First Lady Olena Zelenska, a Month of Mental Health Awareness was held, during which about 1,000 Odesa residents received psychological support.
