The Odesa National University named after I. Mechnikov, supported by the initiative «Donor Odesa», organized the campaign «160 Blood Donors for the 160th Anniversary of ONU».

The event was organized with the involvement of the administration, trade unions of employees and students. Medical professionals from the Odesa Regional Blood Transfusion Station facilitated the mobile donations.

The campaign was conducted in two phases, with the first phase concluding in spring. The second phase coincided with World Kindness Day, celebrated in November. On November 13 and 14, ONU representatives donated blood at two locations: in the Kyiv district at the Faculty of Hydrometeorology and Ecology, and in the Primorsky district at the Department of Health and Safety.

«The donation campaign continued even during the blackout. Despite the power outages at one location, we powered the necessary equipment with a generator. A part of our blood can save our defenders who fight for our lives and independence at much higher risks,» said the campaign initiator, associate professor of physiology, health and safety, and head of the trade union at ONU, Vadim Penov.

Thanks to the collective efforts, over 170 people donated blood at ONU. The campaign attracted not only students and staff but also their family members who expressed their willingness to donate to support Ukraine.

Additionally, students and faculty at ONU named after I. Mechnikov conducted extensive awareness-raising activities regarding the importance of blood donation on social media.

Each blood donation can save up to three lives.
