Celebrating Valor: Defender's Day in Ukraine

01 October 2025

October 1st is celebrated as Defender's Day in Ukraine.

This day is dedicated to honoring modern soldiers and heroes from various eras who protect our nation. Today's defenders carry on the millennia-old military traditions of Ukraine.

We express our gratitude to all who defend our independence and remember those who sacrificed their lives for our country.

In Odesa, a memorial service was held to honor the fallen, with flowers laid at the Memorial to the Fighters for Ukraine.

Local authorities, military personnel, veterans, clergy, and citizens participated in the commemorative event.

Defender's Day was established in 2014 to honor the courage and heroism of those who protect Ukraine's independence and territorial integrity. This day is also linked to the Feast of the Protection of the Holy Mother of God, a patroness of warriors revered by the Cossacks. Modern defenders uphold and develop these Cossack traditions.
The war is shaping and strengthening the Ukrainian nation. The heroism and dedication of today’s defenders have earned them the highest level of trust from Ukrainians. The Ukrainian army is now one of the most capable in the world, serving as a shield for Europe. It is each of our duties to be a strong support for our military, to enhance and support our defenders, and to bring victory closer.
