Vibrant Mural Unveiled in Odessa: A Symbol of Dreams and Safety

03 September 2025

On September 2, during the festive City Day, a new mural titled “Sunny Path to Dreams” was unveiled on the wall of Odessa Lyceum No. 56.

Each observer can interpret the mural's meaning in their own way: for some, it reflects a happy childhood, for others, it evokes images of the Odessa sea and Vorontsov lighthouse, while others may recall the words of Lina Kostenko: “No need for winged soil.” It can also symbolize the aspiration for a peaceful tomorrow. All these interpretations are valid.

However, it is impossible to overlook the sad realities – dangerous objects scattered along the coast. This serves as a reminder of threats that still exist.

That is why the mural features a QR code that leads to educational materials on mine safety. Neglecting this knowledge could lead to tragic consequences, as evidenced by the unfortunate statistics.

During the mural's unveiling, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between Odessa Lyceum No. 56 and the Public Organization “Association of Mine Clearers of Ukraine,” aimed at improving work with children in the field of safety and experience sharing.

The celebration was enhanced by performances from first-graders and the vocal-choreographic studio “Arcadia.”

“This school is truly one of our dreams that is gradually coming true. We remember what the school was like, and we see how everything is changing. We hope that each of our dreams will be realized in such a way – brightly and beautifully. And we wish even more that our children live under peaceful skies,” noted Odesa City Council's Department of Education and Science Director Olena Buinevych.

“Today marks our 10th anniversary of unveilings. We are creating murals all over Ukraine. And today’s unveiling is particularly significant, as it happened on a festive day. Congratulations on City Day!” emphasized Timur Pistryuga, chairman of the “Association of Mine Clearers of Ukraine.”

The project was implemented by the “Association of Mine Clearers of Ukraine” and the Canadian-Ukrainian Foundation.
