Builder's Day Greetings from the Mayor

08 August 2025

On the eve of Builder's Day, Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov extended warm greetings to those working in the construction sector.

«On this special day, I offer my heartfelt congratulations and gratitude for your dedicated and responsible work. We live in challenging times, with the number of buildings destroyed by Russian attacks far exceeding new constructions. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Odessa has faced 138 enemy strikes, 38 of which occurred this year alone. As a result of these bombardments, 3320 facilities have been damaged, and 131 have been completely destroyed. Residential buildings have been hit the hardest, with 1109 apartment complexes and 689 private homes affected. Yet, thanks to your efforts, Odessa maintains its hope, its shape, and its spirit. Despite the war, the city continues to develop. Since the onset of the full-scale invasion, thousands of square meters of new housing have been brought into operation in Odessa. This city has always been a home for craftsmen, and today we take particular pride in you—those who do not shy away from difficulties, who work with integrity, and who build the future,» noted Gennady Trukhanov in his address.

On this professional holiday, the mayor awarded honorary distinctions to representatives of the construction sector in the city.

He specifically highlighted the work of specialists from the Odessa State Academy of Construction and Architecture, who are involved in assessing damaged buildings in the city, including UNESCO heritage sites.

Additionally, the rector of the academy, Anatoliy Kovrov, received the Honorary Award of the Odessa Mayor named after G.G. Marazli of the III degree for his significant contribution to the rescue and restoration of buildings following Russian attacks.

Honorary city awards were also given to construction workers who diligently strive to restore the damaged and make Odessa even better.
