A military commander in the Odessa region has been charged for involving four soldiers in personal apartment renovations instead of fulfilling their military duties, while still receiving combat payments, leading to state losses exceeding 500,000 hryvnias.

Details: "Officers from the State Bureau of Investigations reported that the commander of one military unit in the Odessa region utilized four subordinate soldiers for personal needs".

Investigators found that in December 2024, the official sent four servicemen to renovate an apartment in Podilsk, which was registered under the name of his common-law wife's mother. 

From December 2024 to April 2025, these soldiers engaged in renovations instead of performing combat tasks: laying tiles, plastering walls, installing plumbing, etc.

Despite their absence from duty, the servicemen continued to receive combat payments. These actions caused the state losses of over 500,000 hryvnias.

Meanwhile, other military units were engaged in combat missions at the front.

DBR employees apprehended the commander directly at the apartment where he was conducting repairs. Currently, the issue of selecting a preventive measure and his suspension from duty is being resolved. He faces imprisonment for up to 12 years.
