Robbery in the City Center: Criminal Apprehended
A perpetrator approached the victim on the street under the pretext of having a conversation, but at the opportune moment, he snatched valuable jewelry from him. The suspect has a history of convictions and has spent over 11 years behind bars. He now faces up to 10 years in prison.
A 33-year-old man reported to the police that he had been robbed in the city center. Law enforcement responded quickly to the call and apprehended the offender, who was hiding in the entrance of a residential building.
Deputy Head of the Investigation Department of Police Station No. 1 of the Odessa District Police No. 2, Irina Yablonskaya, stated that the perpetrator noticed a gold chain with a cross around the neck of an unfamiliar local resident, approached the man, intentionally struck up a conversation, and at the right moment suddenly ripped off the jewelry and fled.
The total value of the stolen property was 35,000 hryvnias, but the offender was unable to use it. He refused to explain his criminal actions.
The apprehended man had previous convictions for theft, robbery, and attempted murder. In total, he has spent more than 11 years in penal institutions.
“We have informed him of the suspicion of openly stealing someone else’s property, that is, robbery, committed repeatedly during martial law. Under Part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, this crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years. The suspect is currently in a temporary detention facility, and we are deciding on a preventive measure in the form of custody,” added Police Captain Irina Yablonskaya.
The investigation is ongoing under the procedural guidance of the Black Sea District Prosecutor's Office.
