Trial of Russian Intelligence Network Members in Odesa

20 January 2025

The trial of women involved in a Russian intelligence network has commenced in Odesa. They transmitted data regarding military and medical facilities. It is known they provided information on at least 10 such sites. Two of them are in custody, while the third has received an 8-year prison sentence.

This was reported by the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office.

Law enforcement officials indicated that the accused, under the guidance of a Russian agent, collected information about the locations of Ukrainian Armed Forces units and key infrastructure in Odesa.

"The organizer of the intelligence network turned out to be a 23-year-old local resident. She involved two of her friends in the criminal activities, who also supported the actions of the aggressor. They personally wrote and sent applications to work for one of the Russian intelligence agencies."

"For several months, the trio collected and sent via messenger text messages, photos, videos, and Google Maps screenshots of the locations of Ukrainian Armed Forces units, recruitment centers, hospitals, and air defense sites. The network participants managed to inform the invaders about at least 10 facilities," the statement reads.

For their "work," the women received $500 and hoped to take leadership positions in trade management in case of Odesa's occupation.

The accused were arrested in June 2024 while gathering information about the location of a military unit. Currently, two women are in custody, while the third is serving an 8-year sentence. Taking into account cooperation with the investigation, genuine remorse, and the fact that she committed the crime while pregnant, the court imposed a lighter sentence than the law prescribes.
