Corruption Arrest in Odesa Region
In the Odesa region, law enforcement officers have detained the deputy head of a medical advisory commission for receiving a $6,000 bribe to help a soldier be discharged. Investigators have charged him, and he now faces imprisonment and asset confiscation.
According to the Odesa Regional Police Department, the deputy head of the medical commission conspired with unidentified officials from the Military Medical Clinical Center to assist a soldier in being discharged for health reasons. He valued his services at $6,000, promising to provide medical documents that would justify the soldier's discharge.
"During the operation to stop the criminal activity, police documented the receipt of illegal benefits in two installments and the transfer of the promised medical documents, after which he was detained."
Investigators charged the suspect under part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for receiving illegal benefits by an official for actions in favor of a third party using his official position. This crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years with a ban on holding certain positions.
The court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention with the possibility of bail set at 908,400 hryvnias. Individuals involved in the scheme are being identified."
