Odessa Resident Arrested on Corruption Charges

Under the supervision of prosecutors from the Chornomorsk District Prosecutor's Office, a 57-year-old resident of Odessa has been charged with receiving unlawful benefits for influencing decisions made by a person authorized to perform state functions (Part 2, Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, the suspect used his connections among officials in city and regional clinical hospitals to offer a conscript the opportunity to «resolve the issue» regarding obtaining medical documents necessary for establishing a disability group.

The wrongdoer assured that he could «assist» in the expedited processing of the required documentation and subsequently secure a pension certificate. The cost of such a «service» was set at 8,000 US dollars.

Law enforcement officers apprehended the individual while he was receiving the first part of the bribe—6,500 US dollars.

The full circle of individuals involved in the illegal earning scheme is being established.

The measures to uncover the illegal activity were carried out by prosecutors together with detectives from the VU № 1 OROP № 2 GUNP in the Odessa region, with operational support from the employees of the USC in the Odessa region of the NPU.

 

Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a conviction of the court.
