19 February 2025

The Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office has announced suspicions against the head of a village council in the Bolgrad District for soliciting and receiving bribes for influencing decisions made by an official (Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, the official demanded 12,000 USD from the head of a local business in exchange for facilitating the allocation of four agricultural land plots, each covering 50 hectares.

In return for this money, he promised to influence the village council deputies to approve the sale of rights to these plots for subsequent transfer to the business.

The village head was detained after receiving an advance of 3,000 USD. A preventive measure of detention was chosen for him with the possibility of bail, and he has been suspended from his position.

The operation to expose this illegal activity was conducted by prosecutors from the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office in collaboration with investigators from the Main Department of the National Police in Odesa, supported by the officers of the Criminal Investigation Department of the National Police of Ukraine.
