Arrest of Organized Group Members for Railway Arson
The Odessa Regional Prosecutor's Office has completed the investigation and submitted an indictment against three members of an organized crime group for orchestrating arson on railway properties during a state of war (Part 3 Article 28, Part 2 Article 113 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, the defendants received an order from a Russian intelligence officer via messenger to carry out sabotage at railway facilities in exchange for payment.
During August 2024, using a homemade incendiary mixture, they set fire to eight relay cabinets on railway lines and stations in the Odessa region.
The arsonists followed a typical scheme of Russian intelligence services. First, they scouted potential targets, obtained approval, and then executed the arson while documenting it on video. For each completed task, they received payment, which was subsequently distributed among the group members.
Currently, all accused individuals are in custody.
The pre-trial investigation and operational support were carried out by the Security Service of Ukraine in the Odessa region.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a legal manner.
