Arrest of Suspect in Terrorist Plot in Odesa
Under the guidance of prosecutors from the Odesa Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Defense of the Southern Region, a local resident has been charged with attempted terrorism (part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, in early February, a resident of Odesa received an offer via Telegram to prepare a terrorist act in Odesa using explosives. The organizer chose the location, time, and targets for the explosion. After executing the task, the suspect was promised a reward of 3000 US dollars.
Following the organizer's instructions, he created an explosive device and arrived at the designated parking lot opposite the administrative building, where the vehicle indicated by the organizer was located. To document the process, the suspect set up a smartphone nearby to record everything on video and left the scene. On the same day, the vehicle was detonated remotely. As a result of the explosion, a passerby sustained injuries, and nearby parked cars and the building's facade were damaged.
That evening, law enforcement detained the suspect in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. A motion for a preventive measure is being prepared.
The preliminary investigation is being conducted by the investigative department of the SBU in Odesa region with operational support from the SBU, the Criminal Investigation Department of the National Police, and the Main Department of the National Police in Odesa region.
