Fraud Investigation Concludes in Odesa

10 February 2026

Police have concluded an investigation regarding a resident of Odesa who fraudulently acquired funds from three individuals. The suspect promised to purchase and deliver cars from abroad but failed to fulfill his commitments.
Last year, three victims, aged 51, 39, and 32, reported the crime to the police. During the investigation, officers from police department No. 1 of the Odesa district police identified a 39-year-old man, previously convicted of fraud. He worked at a service station and offered his services for purchasing cars through auctions in the USA.
He claimed to have significant experience in this business, leading people to trust him with their money.
After receiving funds for the purchases and customs clearance, the suspect repeatedly assured the victims that the vehicles were on the way. However, the victims never received the promised cars. The total amount of losses incurred is nearly $33,500, which the perpetrator misappropriated.
«After completing the investigation, the suspect has been charged under parts 3 and 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This relates to the illegal acquisition of someone else's property through deception, meaning fraud committed repeatedly under martial law, which caused significant damage to the victims. The maximum penalty for such actions is eight years in prison. The indictment has been sent to court. The charges will be supported by the Khadzhybay District Prosecutor's Office of Odesa, which oversaw the pre-trial investigation», - stated investigator Yulia Ivanova.
