Shooting Incident at Odesa Restaurant Leads to Arrest

02 February 2026

In Odesa, police apprehended a 41-year-old man who instigated a shooting incident in a restaurant. Fortunately, no one was harmed by his actions. The suspect has been charged with hooliganism, which could result in up to seven years in prison.
The incident occurred early this week in the evening at a restaurant on Fontanska Road. The establishment's administrator alerted the police about an aggressive patron carrying a firearm who discharged a shot.
Authorities discovered that the 41-year-old man, originally from Dnipropetrovsk but residing in Odesa, was out with a friend. During the evening, inebriated, he demanded drugs from an 18-year-old waitress. When she informed him that the restaurant did not provide such services, he became enraged, pulled out a gun, and fired a shot into the floor. Thankfully, the waitress was unharmed.
The suspect was taken into custody, and during the search, police seized a weapon, presumably for firing rubber bullets, along with a spent cartridge for forensic examination.
According to the lead investigator, sufficient evidence led to the suspect being charged under part 4 of article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He faces up to seven years of imprisonment for hooliganism. A decision regarding his preventive measure is currently being considered. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the Odesa city prosecutor's office.
