Farmer Accused of Fraudulent Budget Claims
Investigators have charged an individual with suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The man faces potential punishment ranging from restriction to imprisonment.
The investigation revealed that a 44-year-old head of a farming enterprise from the Artsyz community in the Odesa region, with the intent to unlawfully acquire budget funds, improperly took advantage of a state compensation program for farmers affected by emergencies.
Without owning any land, the farmer intentionally drafted and signed documents containing knowingly false information about the alleged total loss of winter wheat and barley crops over an area of 120 hectares. He submitted this fraudulent documentation to the regional commission for subsidy payments, resulting in his farm being included in the list of state aid recipients. Consequently, a sum of 235,000 hryvnias was transferred from the state budget to the fraudster's account as compensation for the 'lost crops,' which he then used at his discretion.
During the pre-trial investigation, detectives from the Bolhrad District Police Department gathered sufficient evidence to charge the individual under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- Part 1 of Article 366 – drafting false official documents and including knowingly false information in official documents by a public official;
- Part 2 of Article 191 – unlawful acquisition of someone else's property through the abuse of a public official's position.
The punishment for these offenses can be up to five years of restriction or imprisonment, along with a ban on holding certain positions or engaging in specific activities for up to three years.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, with the Bolhrad District Prosecutor's Office overseeing the criminal proceedings.
