Female Officer Arrested for Bribery in Odesa
A woman was detained after receiving a bribe. Investigators formally charged her, and the court applied a preventive measure. The offender faces up to eight years in prison with asset confiscation.
The illegal activities of a 41-year-old resident of the Odesa region, who works as a psychological officer in a military unit in Odesa, were uncovered and documented by the investigative unit of police department No. 2 in collaboration with the Military Counterintelligence Department of the Security Service of Ukraine.
Law enforcement established that the woman spread information among acquaintances about her ability to influence officials of any military unit in the Odesa region for a monetary reward, offering to help soldiers solve their issues.
Specifically, police documented an instance where the officer promised an Odesa resident to resolve the transfer of his acquaintance from the front line to a military unit in Odesa for $4,000. She assured him that after the payment, the soldier would be able to serve in the rear and be removed from military records due to health reasons.
Authorities detained the woman at her home after she received the full amount of the illicit gain in two installments. Investigators seized cash, a mobile phone, and documents of interest for the pre-trial investigation.
According to senior investigator Valentina Zdorova, based on the collected evidence, the suspect was charged with receiving illicit benefits for influencing the decision-making of an official authorized to perform state functions, combined with extortion of such benefits. According to part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the maximum penalty for this crime is eight years of imprisonment with asset confiscation. Upon police request, the court imposed a preventive measure of detention with the right to bail set at 832,000 UAH.
All circumstances of the crime and persons who may be involved are being established.
